River Road Newsletter!

Welcome back all to a full and creative Term 3!!

We have new gear, new teachers, new programs, and more community programs being delivered throughout the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee.

This includes our Coding and Robotics program which has provided a new and interesting creative outlet utilising both hardware and software applications. This is in addition to our exisiting music groups, filmmaking and visual arts programs

Our community projects continue to grow with the addition of a Hilltop Creative Youth Drop in Session, continuing to support youth with a safe and inclusive space to be themselves and create! This in in addition to our existing choir, mens music cave, and Tuesday night drop in sessions in Tahmoor.

I also welcome new students and families to the River Road Family and hope you enjoy creating and exploring the arts with us!

Here’s what’s been going on…

New Gear Alert!!

We now have in the studio some awesome new gear to help support our students with the best music resources for their lessons and practice time!

This includes:

Alesis Surge Drum Kit (second kit for the studio)
Kawai ES120 Keyboard (sounds amazing!!)
KRK 7inch Studio Monitors (for the main studio room)
Studio fit out including Presonus digital audio interface
Novation Launchkey (for the electronic musicians)

Hilltop Music Creative Youth Drop In Sessions are away!

This term 3, we are setting up music and creative art sessions at Hilltop Community Hall, bringing all that we do, including, music making, visual art, filmmaking and photography sessions throughout the term - each Friday 5pm-6pm!

Wollondilly Mens Music Cave at Bargo Men Shed Xmas in July Lunch!

It was awesome bringing the Wollondilly Mens Music Cave to Bargo for the BARGO MENS SHED INC Xmas in a July lunch! - thanks to all thier members and families for having us along!

Great to see members of the men’s cave take the leap and play some music live to the public!

The Wollondilly Mens Music Cave is a men’s health initiative that meet the last Sunday of the month 9am-11am.

Big thanks to Wollondilly Shire Council for supporting the music cave for another 12months via thier community grants program.

Dilly Choir singing at Dementia Australia Lunch

Some members of the Dilly Choir recently donated their time to sing to the attendees of Dementia Australia’s local luncheon, focused on supporting people and carers living with dementia

Tahmoor Creative Youth Drop In Sessions - Tuesdays 7pm-8pm

We continue to create a safe, welcoming and relaxed space where young people can fearlessly express themselves in different creative ways. Where they can make some noise and create art without pressure on high performance so they enjoy the process of learning and be inspired to explore their own ideas.

Paint Day!

We had such an awesome PAINT DAY today!! Thanks to all of the families that came down to put their mark on the bus. This is a wonderful community initiative and we hope you all feel even more a part of it now that your name is literally written inside!

Big thanks to Joe Quilter Artist for a massive start on the outside. Looking so good!! And this couldn’t be done without the BARGO MENS SHED INC getting the bus ready for us!!

Also a thanks goes out to Judy Hannan MP - Member for Wollondilly and Suzy Brandstater - Wollondilly Councillor for rolling in and adding their tag!!

New teacher Alert

Meet Jack Andrews, the newest addition to our River Road family! Hailing from Picton High, he's now a full-time student at the University of Wollongong, in his final year of a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree, majoring in music. His studies have also taken him through the Australian Institute of Music and the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney and we are so proud to have him joining us at River Road. Jack is friendly and full of abundant knowledge and ready to help you on your musical journey.

Coding and Robotics

Our Coding and Robotics program kicks off this term, Saturdays from 10:30am, starting Saturday 5th August.

Students will explore:

Coding languages including Java, Scratch, and Python
Circuitry and ardiuno boards
Robotics design and building

Filmmaking Program

Do you have someone in your household interested in filmmaking and want to nurture that interest but don't know where to start? We've got you covered! We will be running a fun filmmaking program for kids 7-12 years old led by local professional photographer and filmmaker, Tenille Salmon.

These start this week, Wednesday 2nd August, 3:30pm

Creative Arts Group

This program allows students to explore commonly used art mediums towards developing creative and artistic skills. This includes, drawing, shading to photo editing - all while encouraging self expression, fun, creativity. Every week will have something new for students to explore whilst building on the skills taught in lessons before.

These start this Wednesday 2nd August, 5pm
