River Road Newsletter!February 2023

Note from Pat I hope you are all settling into Term 1 2023!! I again welcome new and returning students, families and friends to the River Road Family, and hope you have a great learning experience with us! It’s been a very productive month, with not only Term 1 lessons kicking off, but a range of new community programs and projects well underway. This includes our Youth Stories project, delivered in partnership with Wollondilly Shire Council and the Office of Regional Youth where we have a suite of creative workshops and mentoring supporting Youth to share their stories and experiences of living in the Wollondilly. We also launched the Dilly Choir this past month, which has opened the doors to beginners and those who have never been in a music group before the opportunity to learn and explore music. This group continues to grow and meets each Wednesday 7pm. We also celebrate World Pride this past month, where we continue to support and welcome those who identify as LGBT+ into the River Road family! See more info below on an upcoming event celebrating World Pride! We have also had some great additions to the studio, including a new drum room, new large air conditioner (for those hot days!!). Here’s what’s been going on…

Youth Stories Our Youth Stories program continues to take shape, with creative workshops and mentoring provided to youth aged 12-25 to share their stories and experiences living in the Wollondilly Our Urban Art workshop kicks off with Joe Quilter, this Tuesday 28th Feb 7pm-8pm. Tune In and Connect Our Tune in and Connect program continues to run each Saturday from 12pm -4pm, allowing youth aged 6-18, to use the space as they wish but also engage with a scheduled creative arts teacher, for either free workshops or lessons. This is also a great opportunity to practice, or ask questions. This has so far included our very own Drum teacher Neill providing a Drum Clinic Session, and Joe Quilter providing Urban Art classes each Saturday at 10:30am-11:30am This Saturday 4th March we have Tenille Salmon Soul Images providing a photography workshop, 1pm-3pm See our upcoming guest schedule and sign up here: https://riverroad.edu.au/tuneinandconnect |

Dilly Choir This Dilly Choir is up and running!! - meeting each Wednesday 7pm-8pm. It is a safe and inclusive group, accepting people of all abilities, identities, and backgrounds, including people living with a disability. We are strongly encouraging adult beginners and those who have never engaged a music group before. Wollondilly Mens Music Cave The Music Cave met again this past Sunday to relax and make some music! Its been great providing a space for those new to music, to learn and develop their skills, with songs and styles they love. The group is really sounding great with a few songs on the set list!! This Mens Health Initiative invites all Males in the Wollondilly a safe and inclusive space to be themselves, learn an instrument, make some music and connect. The Drum Cave Its also great to have the Drum Cave complete, with our new Studio Doors, and double glass windows! This room has provided a great space for drum lessons, with isolation to manage sound and privacy as student learn to play. It is also a great sounding room for acoustics, doubling as a recording room additional to our existing spaces. Big thanks to Charles and the Anastasio Building family for coming to the rescue!! Amazing work! |

Students and Parents are encouraged to ensure they have completed the student details form, provided in the original Confirmation email when we first scheduled your lessons. Please email Pat if you would like this confirmation email resent or if you have not received the original confirmation email - patrick@riverroad.edu.au Student Details can also be accessed and updated with each reminder email. Also please email Pat if you are not receiving lesson reminder emails or texts.

FREE use of Practice and Recording Spaces for Students

Rehearsal and practice use of our spaces We are excited to announce that we are making our spaces freely available to enrolled students to use as rehearsal or practice spaces at times when rooms are available. This includes use of all our instruments, including the electric drum kits, guitars and pianos. Additionally this includes recording gear and microphones. Student Resources and Support

Very happy to announce that we are currently developing a student recourses page for currently enrolled students to assist with practice, and guidance while away from the studio. This will include learning guides, videos, tips and helpful information to assist with your learning. Also, a reminder that current students are always welcome into the space to practice, ask questions, or schedule a time with Pat if you need any help between lessons. |
