River Road Newsletter! January 2024

Welcome back to a creative, fun and expressive Term 1 2024! - and a very warm welcome to our new students and families to the River Road family! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and ready to make some music and art! January has already been a huge month with our mobile creative arts studio on tour throughout the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee providing pop up music and arts sessions and our ‘Tune In’ program in partnership with Create NSW and Office of Regional Youth. Our Creative Youth Drop In Sessions recently kicked off on our regular Tuesday Nights at 7pm, our Mens Music Cave had it’s first session of the year last Sunday. Our Dilly Choir is back next Wednesday 7th Feb, with our regular lessons and music groups kicking off from the 5th February. Excited to see our group classes back in action including our Discover Music groups, our Mixed Creative Arts Program, and our new exciting ‘Coding and Robotics Program’ - with more info on these far below. This tern we are also working with NSW Health for a Comedy and Humour Relief program in support of mental health and recovery initiatives - more infor and links far below but watch this space for more info on comedy workshops and events. Music and Art Expression sessions and Compilation Album This project provided free and immersive music and art workshops in the Southern Highland during the summer school holidays. Designed for youth aged 12-24, youth dived into the world of songwriting, music and production, and visual arts, culminating in the creation of a professional complication album. Warragamba Expression Session! This month the Creative Dilly made its way up to Warragamba to set up and do some music and creative art workshops. It was awesome to see so many young people getting involved and using the bus! |

Comedy and Humour Workshops In partnership with NSW Health, we will be organising and hosting Comedy Workshops with famous Australian Comedian Laura Hughes. This program is part of NSW Health’s wellbeing and disaster recovery initiates, with a focus on humour in the face of adversity. Coding and Robotics Program Back for Term 1! Designed to have fun while exploring the exciting world of creative coding and robotics. This 8 week program will get them thinking with problem solving, designing, building and programming. A fun, one hour session with the program finishing up at our end of year celebration ‘River Fest’ with their robots and games on display!

Stop Motion Filmmaking Program Do you have someone in your household interested in filmmaking and want to nurture that interest but don't know where to start? We've got you covered! We will be running a fun filmmaking program for kids 7-12 years. This is a great opportunity for young people who are interested in learning how to make films, from developing an idea to shooting and editing. Mixed Creative Arts Program This 10 week program allows students to explore commonly used art mediums towards developing creative and artistic skills. This includes, drawing, shading to photo editing - all while encouraging self expression, fun, creativity. Music Therapist in the House!! This month Pat also became a Registered Music Therapist (RMT)!!! To attain this distinction, Pat successfully completed a Master of Music Therapy and fulfilled the registration requirements with the Australian Music Therapy Association Music therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses music and musical elements to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Music therapists are trained professionals who use their musical expertise to assist people achieve specific therapeutic goals and enhance their overall wellbeing. The application of music in therapy hinges on the recognition that music possesses the remarkable ability to elicit emotions, memories, and physical responses. This quality renders music an invaluable tool for fostering communication, self-expression, and personal growth. Music Therapy services are available to all people, and is an approved NDIS support. Creative Youth Drop Sessions Our Tuesday night Creative Youth Drop In Sessions are back and on each Tuesday night from 7pm, where young people can come to a safe and relaxing space to make music, form bands, and create art! River Road and Vinnies Collaboration Did you know that we have been going on tour every week to run musical workshops with the amazing people at Creative Space Southern Highlands? 🎵🎶 Run by Vinnies Australia, The Creative Space is an inclusive, welcoming, and safe place for adults. They want to make sure everyone has access to the arts so they run all sorts of amazing creative workshops for the community. 🧡 We kick these off again every Thursday starting 1st Feb 2024. |

Wollondilly Mens Music Cave The mens music cave will be back in 2024 with our first session back on Sunday 28th January 2024, 9am-11am. The mens music cave meet the last Sunday of each month and welcome all male in the Wollndilly to join us in making some music, having a chat, and enjoying som breakfast. |

Udio Account and Term 1 Over the last term we implemented a new student management platform Udio, which aims to streamline our operations, but also provide students and parents greater visibility and management of their lessons. For students registered for Term 1, please ensure all student details are up to date including outstanding Term 4 fees.
