River Road Newsletter! September 2023

This past month was a fun filled and exiting mix of lessons, Illuminate festival, a new student platform, Hill Top exhibition, additional youth joining our Tuesday Night Creative Drop In, and our community groups Wollondilly Mens Cave and Dilly Choir welcoming new members. We have also kicked off an exciting new project ‘Ramshackle Orkestra’ which is a Street Band (think brass/big band but a bit rawer and River Road style). This is invented and headed up by our new teacher Heather Berman who previously conducted street choirs among other amazing community music groups. This past month we have also rolled out and implemented a new Student Management Platform ‘Udio’, which aims to improve our operations but also provide students an parents greater visibility and control over their lessons. Like all new systems, there are some little tweaks we still need to do but very exited and happy with recent testing and keen to use it for Term 4. More info on this below. See you in the studio! Illuminate 2023!! This Illuminate Festival River Road took over the grassed area in front of the shire hall lawn, as well as our community bands taking the stage and rocking the suburbs! This included our Wollondilly Mens Music Cave (with special guest Gracie), the Dilly Choir, and our Tuesday Night Youth Bands. A big congratulations to all the music groups who took the stage!! Hill Top Exhibition This week we capped out our Term 3 Hill Top Creative Drop In Sessions, with all the urban artworks on display, including photography works, and like music performed. A bit thinks to all youth who have participated in this program and looking forward to another Term 4! |

‘River Fest’ - 9th December Our very exciting end of year creative festival ‘River Fest’ is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, 9th December from 1pm, where we showcase all things River Road over the past year. This will be held at Wollondilly Shire Hall, Picton. This includes our Student Album, where all students have an opportunity to record and contribute some sound and music, but also welcome any students and groups who wish to perform . We’ll also have an exhibition or visual and urban art pieces, with a silent auction, but also a screening of our student films! |

Ramshackle Orkestra Ramshackle Orkestra is our newest exciting project delivered by the awesome Healther Berman, a highly experienced conductor and street choir and community music group manager. Ramshackle is JOYFUL AND INCLUSIVE. We play violins, trumpets, saxophones, clarinets, flutes, guitars, ukuleles, drums, bass, djembes and lots more. If you play anything AT ANY LEVEL from beginner to total legend and any age from eight to 80 and WE WANT YOU! Look out soon for our Bus on the the Road and Paint Day 2.0 The Creative Dilly Bus, a Mobile Creative Arts Facility continues to take shape with the Bargo Mens Shed completing cabinetry and flooring. Watch this space for confirmation of date for Paint Day 2.0 , and unboxing and fit our of music and arts gear for our youth to be the first to try it out! Tahmoor Creative Youth Drop In Sessions - Tuesdays 7pm-8pm We continue to create a safe, welcoming and relaxed space where young people can fearlessly express themselves in different creative ways. Where they can make some noise and create art without pressure on high performance so they enjoy the process of learning and be inspired to explore their own ideas. Halloween Party 31st October On Tuesday 31st October, we will transform the studio into a Halloween party, encouraging students to dress up, but also be part of our Tuesday Night creative drop in sessions, with Live Music, giveaways, and plenty of trick or treating! |

New Student Platform - Udio Over the last month we have been implementing a new student management platform Udio, which aims to streamline our operations, but also provide students and parents greater visibility and management of their lessons. This includes make up lessons and cancellations, and payment control. There are some final touches with communications, but all current students rolling over into Term 4 will soon receive confirmation emails.
