River Road Newsletter!

October 2023

This past month was a fun filled and exciting mix of creative arts and music making!

We kicked off our exciting new project ‘Ramshackle Orkestra’ which is a Street Band (think brass/big band but a bit rawer and River Road style). This is headed up by our new teacher Heather Berman who previously conducted street choirs among other amazing community music groups.

This month we start to prepare for our end of year ‘River Fest’ which will allow students and our community groups an opportunity to share their creative works and their achievements for 2023! This is scheduled for 9th December, from 1pm.

We have thoroughly enjoyed delivering our community pop up sessions, including Hill Top creative sessions, and very soon Wingelo and Penrose - but also we are excited to announce we have new funding from Create NSW to run music and arts programs in the January school holidays!

Hill Top Drop In Sessions

This Term 4 we have continued to deliver our creative youth drop in sessions at Hill Top

‘River Fest’ - 9th December

Our very exciting end of year creative festival ‘River Fest’ is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, 9th December from 1pm, where we showcase all things River Road over the past year. This will be held at Wollondilly Shire Hall, Picton.

This includes our Student Album, where all students have an opportunity to record and contribute some sound and music, but also welcome any students and groups who wish to perform .

We’ll also have an exhibition or visual and urban art pieces, with a silent auction, but also a screening of our student films!

Tune Into The Music

We are excited to announce we have been successful in receiving a grant to deliver music and creative art programs during the January school holidays!

Student Works 2023

As part of our End of year festival River Fest, we encourage all students to submit a recorded work to our annual Student Works Album.

Each teacher will work with their students to ensure they have a piece to add to the album.

Coding and Robotics

Our Coding and Robotics program kicked off this month, with this term students focused on building their own robotics project!

Look out soon for our Bus on the the Road and Paint Day 2.0

The Creative Dilly Bus, a Mobile Creative Arts Facility continues to take shape with the Bargo Mens Shed completing cabinetry and flooring.

Watch this space for confirmation of date for Paint Day 2.0 , and unboxing and fit our of music and arts gear for our youth to be the first to try it out!

Tahmoor Creative Youth Drop In Sessions - Tuesdays 7pm-8pm

We continue to create a safe, welcoming and relaxed space where young people can fearlessly express themselves in different creative ways. Where they can make some noise and create art without pressure on high performance so they enjoy the process of learning and be inspired to explore their own ideas.

Stop Motion Filmmaking

Our Stop Motion Filmmaking Program kicks off this week, providing students an opportunity to learn how to make their own films and screen them at our end of year River Fest!!

New Student Platform - Udio

Over the last month we have been implementing a new student management platform Udio, which aims to streamline our operations, but also provide students and parents greater visibility and management of their lessons. This includes make up lessons and cancellations, and payment control.

There are some final touches with communications, but all current students rolling over into Term 4 will soon receive confirmation emails.

River Road and Vinnies Collaboration

Did you know that we have been going on tour every week to run musical workshops with the amazing people at Creative Space Southern Highlands? 🎵🎶

Run by Vinnies Australia, The Creative Space is an inclusive, welcoming, and safe place for adults. They want to make sure everyone has access to the arts so they run all sorts of amazing creative workshops for the community. 🧡
